Description | The Virtual Learning Environment service supports face to face, blended, and fully online teaching and learning activities within the University, through two IT platforms (Blackboard Learn and Moodle) which make it easy to distribute teaching materials in a variety of media, facilitate interaction between students, promote reflection, and support a variety of related assessment activities. Alongside these IT platforms, user support, training and specialist advice and guidance on their use is provided. There are many features encompassed within the Virtual Learning Environment service, and the most appropriate tool or combination of tools will depend on the specific activity being undertaken. The Virtual Learning Environment service provides a single secure place in which all resources related to a course can be gathered or linked to, along with tools that allow staff and students to stay up to date with key activities. Course materials in a variety of formats and electronic reading lists can be distributed to students; assessments can be collected and feedback returned; and students can collaborate and reflect on their learning using integrated private blogs, wikis, discussion forums and virtual classroom tools. Announcements and notifications can be sent to students to keep them up to date. |
